A story that slightly went under the radar yesterday, amidst the huge whirlwind surrounding the NHL trade deadline, is the fact that the Los Angeles Kings actually tried to get rid of Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Yes, already!

As we know, Dubois is really not living up to expectations at the moment, and it's hurting the Kings. (28 points in 62 games and very disappointing defensive stats)

Let's remember that he is under contract there for another 8 long seasons, at an annual salary of $8.5 million per year. Ouch.

Dubois almost traded to Boston, yesterday?

"I'm told the Kings are trying to trade Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Boston was interested, and the Kings have interest in a goalie like Ullmark/Swayman." - Jacob Billington

Obviously, it didn't work out, but some think it was really close:

Don't be surprised if these rumors pick up again this summer, and don't be surprised if Pierre-Luc Dubois is already playing his last games with the Kings at the end of this season. It's just not working out for him there.

Could he end up in Boston? Will he be traded for free? They would probably like to buy out his contract, but that would hurt them so much in the long term.

One can imagine that his trade value is extremely low right now.

In any case, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens must be extremely happy today not to have traded a Kaiden Guhle, a Kirby Dach, or even a Juraj Slafkovsky, in exchange for Dubois.

Sometimes, the best trades are the ones you don't make, as they say.

A case to follow!
