Indeed, before the wave of acquisitions in the coming weeks for the Canadiens, we are experiencing a wave of departures.
Following yesterday's announcement...
Today, we learn that forward Mitchell Stephens, a Stanley Cup champion in 2020, may have played his last game within the organization.
Stephens was under a two-way contract with the Canadiens until 2024, and he is now free as a bird.
This is what is currently being circulated.
This would obviously be a notable loss for the Laval Rocket and Jean-François Houle, but it must be admitted that many young players will be joining the Canadiens' AHL affiliate, so space needed to be made for them.
One thing is certain, the Rocket's lineup will be completely transformed in 2024-2025, setting the stage for players like Owen Beck and Filip Mesar to take on significant roles.
Speaking of departures, let's recall that another player on a two-way contract with the Montreal Canadiens, and another important player for the Laval Rocket, has officially left the organization after just one season.
Returning to Mitchell Stephens, he is a 27-year-old forward, the 33rd overall pick in 2015, and he has accumulated 16 points in 95 career NHL games.
He played 23 games with the Montreal Canadiens in 2024, scoring 3 points.
With the Laval Rocket, Stephens scored 41 points in 68 games and 35 points in 49 matches. (33 goals)
We wish him the best of luck in the rest of his career, whether in Europe or North America.
More details to follow.
