Eight contract offers have just been submitted within the Montreal Canadiens' organization, according to the official statement.

These are eight qualifying offers for eight young players who hope to reach the level of the Montreal Canadiens one day, but who are currently at the third tier of the organization (with the Trois-Rivières Lions).

See the official statement.

"We have made eight qualifying offers to the following players:

Forwards: Matthew Boucher, Justin Ducharme, Nicolas Guay, Nicolas Larivière, William Lemay, Maxim Trépanier, and Ty Smilanic

Defenseman: Eric Hjorth"

- Trois-Rivières Lions

Here's exactly what it implies:

"The Trois-Rivières Lions (affiliate club of the Montreal Canadiens) have released the list of players who received a qualifying offer. This list includes Matthew Boucher, Justin Ducharme, Nicolas Guay, Nicolas Larivière, Eric Hjorth, William Lemay, Maxim Trépanier, and Ty Smilanic.

It should be noted that each team can protect the rights of up to eight players on the season-ending roster announced on June 22.

These eight players cannot be traded. The offer made to them will remain active until July 22. These players, however, can be traded after the July 22 deadline.

If no trade occurs, the team ensures they retain the rights to these skaters for the duration of the next season, no matter what happens."

- Trois-Rivières Lions

So, eight players are targeted by these offers, including one acquired via trade in 2022.

Ty Smilanic qualified by the Trois-Rivières Lions

It should be noted that he was indeed acquired via trade by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens in March 2022 in the Ben Chiarot trade with the Florida Panthers.

Smilanic was a third-round pick of the Panthers in 2020, and he scored 7 points in 31 games this season with the Lions.

The complete trade was as follows:

To Montreal -

Ty Smilanic
2022 fourth-round pick
2023 first-round pick

To Florida -

Ben Chiarot

The Panthers' 2023 first-round pick was later traded by Kent Hughes in the Alex Newhook deal with the Colorado Avalanche.

Details will follow.
