Another entity decides to make an important gesture.
CCM Hockey will now stop using Alex Ovechkin and other Russian NHL players in any marketing efforts, the company said, adding that they had taken the decision after Russia invaded Ukraine last week.
There is one significant caveat: To avoid any lawsuits, CCM is not terminating Ovechkin's contract with the brand, but they will simply cease all commercials featuring the Caps forward.
The Montreal company will therefore continue to pay Ovechkin more than $500,000 a year, plus a percentage of its sales in Russia, at least, according to an industry source familiar with the matter.
«You don't want to end up in court with them for breach of contract. Better to just pay them, lay low and see where the world goes next year." - Source
