The excellent reporter for The Athletic, Marc-Antoine Grondin, noted on social media that the Florida Panthers are likely in hot water this year, as the final playoff berth would likely come down to them and the Red Wings.
Keep in mind that if Florida doesn't make the playoffs, the Habs have the organization's first pick in the upcoming draft. If, by some fluke, that pick were to become a top-15 pick, the trade that landed Ben Chiarot with the Panthers last year would become another legendary Kent Hughes move.
There is no doubt that the performance of this team is under the microscope this season and let's just say that for now, Paul Maurice's team is making Montreal fans dream with a non-playoff spot right now.
