A lot of rumors have been circulating for a few days about Marc Bergevin's future with the Montreal Canadiens. This one is in the last season to his current deal with the Montreal training.
According to information mentioned by Darren Dreger of TSN, Geoff Molson would not be inclined to give Marc Bergevin what he wants in terms of salary. Apparently, the number of years would not be an issue, but the monetary level yes.
But why would money be an issue for Geoff Molson? The Montreal Canadiens are one of the richest organizations in the NHL. Moreover, Marc Bergevin has shown considerably that he deserves a good salary, with all that he has gone through since he took office. No one cares more about the Habs than Marc Bergevin in the organization.
It would be a big loss for the Montreal Canadiens to lose an individual like this. He seems tired, there's no doubt about that, but he seems to want to stay here and be a part of what happens next. He is the right man for the job. It would be surprising if any other individual was as tolerant as he is, especially in the modern age.
We don't know the details of Bergevin's demands, but if you want to get good service, you owe it to yourself to pay for it. The Montreal Canadiens are in good hands with Marc Bergevin and I hope that Mr. Molson will give in to his salary demands.
