However, THE big question on everyone's mind is: who will be the lucky one?
The subject was discussed on Tony Marinaro's podcast on Sunday.
According to Marinaro, Jeff Gorton already has THE candidate he wants to work with.
"If the decision was up to Jeff Gorton, he would hire Kent Hughes. Of the three candidates, Hughes has the greatest personal and professional connection to Gorton," said Tony Marinaro.
This assumption would make a lot of sense, considering the excellent relationship Gorton and Hughes have, from their time together in Boston.
Marinaro's guest, Stu Cowan, seemed to agree with the host.
"Jeff Gorton is a general manager at heart. So it's likely he's looking for a candidate who will bring a different background and experience than he does. Another advantage that Kent Hughes has is that as a player agent, he already has a good foundation on player value and has experience in contract negotiations. The only difference is that he will be on the other side of the table," said Stu Cowan.
The problem with Hughes' candidacy?
He's not fully bilingual, and we know how important fluency in English and French is in Montreal.
"Kent Hughes is the best choice, but the language issue makes the decision more difficult," said Tony Marinaro.
Recall that journalist Marc De Foy had speculated that the new GM could be known by Monday.
It's going to be a bumpy ride in Montreal this week, so get ready. A new era is about to begin.
