About 45 seconds after announcing his retirement, the Montreal Canadiens have just announced the hiring of Paul Byron.

"Paul Byron will now serve as a player development consultant for the Canadiens, after playing 12 seasons in the NHL."

It's great news to see that this hockey enthusiast will be able to continue working in this wonderful field, and he will do very well in his new role. We are convinced of it.

Good luck to Paul in this new challenge!

"Forward Paul Byron officially announced his retirement on Wednesday, after a 12-season career in the NHL. He has also been nominated for the position of player development consultant.

On behalf of the entire organization, I want to congratulate Paul on his long career as a professional hockey player," mentioned the owner, president, and CEO of the Canadiens, Geoff Molson.

"Through his substantial contributions both on and off the ice, Paul perfectly embodies what it means to be a player for the Montreal Canadiens. Through his leadership, kindness, and presence in the community, Paul has left his mark over his seven seasons in Montreal, and we are very happy that he is joining the player development department. His experience, communication, and approach will be beneficial, for both our players and our prospects.

In his new role, Byron will be called to work within the player development department alongside Adam Nicholas and Rob Ramage. He will accompany the players during some on-ice sessions, in addition to overseeing their progress off the ice.

Byron was claimed off waivers by the Canadiens on October 6, 2015."
