Surprising statement: Gustav Lindstrom ahead of Arber Xhekaj, Justin Barron, and Jordan Harris?
In the last few minutes, former Montreal Canadiens scout Grant McCagg made a major statement about newcomer Gustav Lindström (the young player acquired in the Jeff Petry trade).
According to him, he might start the season in the top-4, on one of the CH's first two defensive pairs. Wow.
Personally, we see him more as a 6th or 7th defenseman, but here's what McCagg mentioned:
He therefore doesn't see Lindström in the long-term top-4 in Montreal, but he truly believes that's where the former Red Wings player might start the season.
According to McCagg, he could start the season in the top-4 if Jordan Harris or Arber Xhekaj don't play on the right side.
A bold statement that's causing a stir.
You can guess that if Gustav Lindström starts on the first two defensive pairs, some will have to make way.
Justin Barron should evidently start the season with the Laval Rocket.
Based on McCagg's words, this is what Martin St-Louis's defensive squad would look like:
Guhle � Lindström
Xhekaj / Harris � Kovacevic
This would mean that either Arber Xhekaj or Jordan Harris wouldn't have a spot on the team.
Do you agree with him?
Personally, we see Barron, Xhekaj, and Harris ahead of Lindström, but it will be interesting to watch at the camp.
After all, we're talking about a defenseman who played fewer than 40 games in Detroit last season and averaged 14 minutes there.
