Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes has just completed another trade with the Calgary Flames. Goaltender Michael McNiven moves to the Flames, in exchange for future considerations.
Why would this be a gain for Montreal? Because Kent Hughes just released a contract and this, absolutely free. It will be useful if he wants to offer contracts to players like Jordan Harris by the end of the season.
McNiven had just lost his job with the Laval Rocket to Kevin Poulin, and he didn't want to play with the Trois-Rivières Lions in the ECHL. Now we see the ending. It's over for him in Montreal.
