The Arizona Coyotes are going to be the laughing stock of the NHL this season due to the fact that they will be playing in a college arena. After playing the previous 18 years at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, complications with their lease on the arena, as well as with the city government, forced their departure.
Of course, you also have to add the fact that the Coyotes were among the worst teams in hockey last season, and it certainly doesn't look like things are going to get better anytime soon.
To add insult to injury, Arizona State University, with whom the Coyotes will share the men's ice hockey team, announced the name of their new arena this Tuesday, a name that will surely add to the negative comments about the organization. Indeed, the Coyotes' next amphitheater will be called the Mullet Arena...
The name doesn't come from the classic 80's hairstyle, but rather was named for the Mullett family, which supports the ASU hockey program and Sun Devil Athletics as a whole. Still, it's pretty funny...
