Since the most recent trade involving Jeff Petry and the Montreal Canadiens, many unanswered questions are circulating, including the following.

Why, against all odds, were the Canadiens not on the list of 15 teams where Petry did not want to be traded?

We now have the answer to this question.

The excellent journalist Eric Engels from Sportsnet recently had the opportunity to speak with the Petry family, and here's what he had to say on the subject:

I don't believe that even in their wildest dreams, the Petrys thought they would be traded back to Montreal, and that's why they didn't put the Canadiens on their list of 15 teams where they would refuse to be traded.

- Eric Engels

Wow. Petry believed so much that it was impossible for him to be re-traded to Montreal that he didn't even deem it necessary to put the Tricolore organization on his no-trade list.

Imagine his reaction when he learned the news last weekend. It must have been something.

That said, Engels added that Petry is aware that Kent Hughes is trying to trade him elsewhere. And if he ever has to start the season with the Canadiens, that's what he will do.

Petry knows that it's part of the business.

Anyway, if Petry is indeed traded again, let's bet that the Habs will be on his no-trade list this time!
