Changes are expected in net for the Montreal Canadiens.

Clearly, Cayden Primeau is not meeting expectations right now, with a save percentage of 0.861 this season (0.890 in his career) and a goals-against average of 4.38.

One wonders if the Canadiens might have won more games by now with a goalie like Jakub Dobes or Connor Hughes between the pipes.

Primeau is capable of being excellent, but his inconsistency from game to game is far from ideal for a team that needs to know what to expect from its goaltender.

Waivers for Cayden Primeau?

Here's what journalist Stu Cowan thinks about the situation.

«If Cayden Primeau doesn't improve, what should the Canadiens do?

Stu Cowan: «For me, we're at the point where if this continues, you put him on waivers, and for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, if you lose him, you lose him!»

Do you agree with him?

As reported by Zachary Hickling, the journalist went into even more detail:

«Goalies need to be better. Sam Montembeault needs to be better, and if Cayden Primeau isn't improving, what should the Canadiens do?

For me, it's reached a point where, if his poor performances continue, you put him on waivers, and if you lose him, you lose him. We're not going to keep juggling three goalies. I think they would have been better off putting Primeau on waivers last season. If he ended up in Laval, great, play him a lot; if you lose him, you lose him. Keep Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault.

This team would be better off right now if it only had Montembeault and Allen.»

- Stu Cowan

Wow, those are pretty strong words, but it's hard to say he's wrong.

If it were your decision, what would you do? Would you give an opportunity to Connor Hughes or Jakub Dobes?

Especially if Primeau doesn't quickly turn things around, it seems likely that the Canadiens' management will act, and a waiver move is certainly anticipated by some.
