Huge statement by Hughes on potentially drafting Macklin Celebrini
With the 1st overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, Macklin Celebrini will be drafted, and Kent Hughes just made an interesting statement.
It's rare to see a leader speak out like this about a player outside of his organization, but we love it.
Clearly, Kent Hughes adores the young Celebrini and really wants him.
As brilliantly reported by my colleague Nicolas Desrosiers, in an interview with Le Journal de Montréal, the Habs GM did not hesitate to praise the young Celebrini, the future 1st overall pick in the NHL.
Celebrini, who has been extraordinary with Lane Hutson this season at Boston University, will be a home run for the team that acquires him according to Kent Hughes.
Yes, Hughes would really like to have the chance to add Celebrini to his lineup.
Macklin Celebrini will be a home run for the team that drafts him, according to Kent Hughes!
See an excerpt.
«He is really talented, but what I notice the most is his character.
He is so competitive. And he is already a leader within the second-best team [in the NCAA].»
- Kent Hughes
«He doesn't just take care of his game, but also that of his entire team. We often see very talented players, but he is a future captain. Macklin Celebrini will change the culture of the team that drafts him.»
- Kent Hughes

As of writing, the CH has an 8.5% chance of winning the first overall pick and acquiring Celebrini.
In 38 games this season in the NCAA, Celebrini scored an impressive total of 32 goals and obtained 64 points.
At 17, he was the best college player in the country, which is extremely rare. Some players in the league were 6-7 years older than him, imagine!
