As the NHL trade deadline approaches on March 7, rumors are swirling around certain Montreal Canadiens players.

The names of Jake Evans and David Savard have been mentioned frequently, but Joel Armia shouldn't be overlooked.

The Finnish forward, who is in the final year of his contract, will become a free agent at the end of the season, and several teams would like to add a player of his caliber to their lineup.

However, as reported by TVA Sports, the possibility of Kent Hughes reaching a new contract agreement with his forward shouldn't be ruled out.

Joel Armia sends a clear message: he wants to stay with the Montreal Canadiens if possible

At least, that's what Joel Armia told 98.5 radio host Jeremy Filosa, stating that his camp and the Canadiens' management are currently in discussions to reach an agreement.

"Yes, my agent is talking with the team, but I prefer not to think about it. I just want to focus on trying to help the team win games."

- Joel Armia, who also added that he would like to stay in Montreal if possible.

Many Canadiens fans might find it surprising that the organization is interested in keeping Joel Armia, but he has been successful since last season.

It's worth remembering that the former first-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 2011 was sent down to the Laval Rocket before the start of the 2023-24 season. Since then, he has recorded 49 points, including 27 goals, in 123 games.

Alongside Jake Evans this season, he has formed one of the NHL's best penalty-killing duos, and in case of injuries, Armia can also step up occasionally on the power play.
