First, let's mention that young forwards Filip Mesar and Xavier Simoneau are on the ice this morning, having changed groups, and they are expected to suit up tonight against the New Jersey Devils.
Don't be surprised if Mesar is cut after tonight's game, and don't be surprised if this is his only preseason game (unless he delivers a truly exceptional performance).
This one is really intriguing.
According to early indications, young Mailloux will indeed play a second game in two nights.
It's quite rare to see this during preseason games.
What does this mean? Honestly, it's a good question.
It could be to give him the best possible chance to show what he's capable of, it could be because the decision about him is still unclear, or it might just be to get him used to the rigors of an 82-game NHL schedule, which includes several stretches of two games in two nights during the season.
The excellent Anthony Marcotte seems to believe that Logan Mailloux will need to give just a little bit more if he wants to convince Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton 100%.
So, he'll have another opportunity tonight!
Mailloux will be paired with Jayden Struble this time.
At 21 years old, Logan Mailloux is a right-handed defenseman standing 6'3» and weighing 220 pounds. He was the 31st overall pick by the Canadiens in the 2021 NHL Draft (first round) and scored 47 points in 72 games last season with the Laval Rocket.
He also added 1 point in 1 game with the Montreal Canadiens.
And what about you, where do you think Logan Mailloux will start the season?
Details to follow.
