Young defenseman officially leaves the Montreal Canadiens as Kent Hughes makes decision on Norlinder
A young defenseman has officially left the Montreal Canadiens organization, as general manager Kent Hughes has let go of Mattias Norlinder.
He had an excellent 2023 training camp, but unfortunately, he couldn't maintain his momentum during the season. Today, he is officially no longer a prospect within the organization.
Mattias Norlinder is officially released and returns home
Norlinder has agreed to a two-year contract with the MoDo team in the SHL.
Let's remember that MODO Hockey asked its fans to contribute to sign Mattias Norlinder earlier this week.
A crowdfunding campaign to sign a hockey player is quite an uncommon technique, but it seems to have worked for Mattias Norlinder.
We wish him the best of luck moving forward.
Norlinder, 24 years old, is a 6-foot, 191-pound left-handed defenseman. He was a third-round pick of the Canadiens in 2019 (64th overall) and collected 9 points in 50 games last season with the Laval Rocket.
After about two and a half seasons spent in North America, he now returns to Sweden.
