Anthony Di Marco from the site The Fourth Period however asserts that a team in the top 10 of the next draft, namely the Philadelphia Flyers, are very strongly considering the idea of drafting Matvei Michkov at their pick, which is the 7th.
The organization's new GM, Daniel Brière, doesn't seem to be afraid of making bold decisions. He recently showed this when he traded defender Ivan Provorov in a three-team deal a few weeks ago.
It has also been recently announced that Brière will meet with Michkov's team this week in Nashville.
It will be interesting to see what comes out of these meetings with the NHL teams. According to what many report, the young Russian attacker would like to choose his future destination in the NHL. As Mathis Therrien of the site DLC says, the fact that Michkov is willing to meet with the Flyers is perhaps the first sign of his openness to playing in Pennsylvania.
Can't wait for June 28 to find out what will happen to the young prospect!
With strong rumors that the Washington Capitals absolutely want Michkov, especially if the youngster also wants to play for Alex Ovechkin's team, this news can change everything.
The fact that the Philadelphia Flyers may possibly draft Michkov gives tremendous value to Kent Hughes' 5th overall pick because the Capitals are drafting after the Flyers, and after the Canadiens, obviously.
If they want Michkov, they will therefore have to move up a few ranks and pay dearly to a team like the Montreal Canadiens.
Because, yes, Kent Hughes is trying to move up in the draft, but he would also be open to moving down a few ranks, if the price is right.
A big thanks to Daniel Brière for his interest in Michkov. It could really help the Habs if Kent Hughes didn't want to select him.
