A trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Blue Jackets involving a young defenseman has just been suggested by two journalists

It can't be said that Adam Boqvist's career has really taken off. The eighth overall pick by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2018 draft has not yet established himself as a top-tier defenseman in the NHL despite all his potential.

Now with the Columbus Blue Jackets, having been part of the trade that sent Seth Jones to Chicago in the summer of 2021, Boqvist nonetheless accumulated 24 points in 46 games in 2022-2023, but as reported by the site Habsolumentfan.com, there's starting to be a certain congestion at the defense position for the Blue Jackets.

With the arrival of Damon Severson and Ivan Provorov, and the potential emergence of David Jiricek and Corson Ceulemans, it might be that the organization parts ways with one of its young defensemen. Not to mention that a certain Zach Werenski should be returning healthy.

That said, a few weeks ago, some insiders suggested that Kent Hughes should take an interest in Adam Boqvist. This was the case, among others, for Marco D'Amico, from the site Montreal Hockey Now, who sees in him a Kirby Dach 2.0.

Even if the idea is interesting on paper, it must be said that few concrete rumors have mentioned a possible trade between the Canadiens and the Blue Jackets, and with the number of young right-handed defensemen the organization has (Justin Barron, Logan Mailloux, and David Reinbacher), it would be rather surprising if the young Swede arrived in Montreal and that at only 23 years old, he still has a lot of value on the trade market.

But as we know, we're never safe from a surprise with a certain Kent Hughes.
