In the latest edition of his podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman made a statement that truly dropped like a bomb.

He mentioned that the Vancouver Canucks are uncertain about committing long-term to star forward Elias Pettersson.

Excuse me? Why?

And as if that wasn't enough, he added that Pettersson too is unsure about re-signing in Vancouver. Wow.

Rumors suggest that the atmosphere in the locker room there isn't exceptional right now, but if Pettersson indeed leaves, it would be huge.

"Pettersson has said he's not sure about his future in Vancouver, and I believe the Canucks have also indicated they're hesitant to commit to him if there's any doubt in Pettersson's intentions.

I'm not convinced the Canucks want to commit." -Elliotte Friedman

This is definitely very concerning for Canucks fans, and a dream for those of other teams.

Pettersson, 24, was the 5th overall pick in the 2017 draft. He's under contract with the Canucks until 2024 and earns $7.35 million per year.

Last season, he racked up 102 points in 80 games (39 goals).

If Pettersson truly becomes available, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens must absolutely try and inquire.

He could be our "Artemi Panarin" if we compare it to the New York Rangers' rebuild.

The Habs have the "assets" and the cap space to afford a Pettersson. To be continued.
