If the fate of the forward is somewhat uncertain, we can however be sure that there will be demand for him. Hughes would have even already set the price to acquire his veteran according to what David Pagnotta of the site The Fourth Period recently reported.
This leads us to wonder where Monahan could end up? On this subject, another excellent hockey informant, Frank Seravalli, sees the Boston Bruins being interested in the veteran forward.
While being aware that a trade between the two teams could be strange, the informant thinks that the CH's number 91 would be the perfect fit with the Massachusetts team. With the losses of David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron, Monahan would be an excellent option.
The problem, according to Seravalli, is that Boston doesn't have much to offer the Canadiens. They don't have a pick before the 4th round in the next amateur draft, and their prospect pool is not very impressive. It then becomes problematic to acquire a player of Monahan's caliber without stripping the lineup for the end of the season.
On the other hand, Seravalli's colleague at DailyFaceoff, Matt Larkin, has proposed six teams for which Monahan could be traded. Like his colleague, he thinks a trade between the two clubs, which would be a first in 23 years, would be difficult due to a lack of choices and prospects. However, he does mention the names of Matthew Poitras and Fabian Lysell who could interest the Canadiens. It remains to be seen if Don Sweeney would be willing to sacrifice one of these two young players for a rental player...
In addition to the Boston Bruins, Larkin mentions the Colorado Avalanche, the Winnipeg Jets, the Edmonton Oilers, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Vancouver Canucks. It will be interesting to see who among them will have the best offer. Let's hope there will be a bidding war!
