Major trade involving Jeff Petry: the NHL just made a change on its website and it's causing a stir

Just a few hours after the major trade involving Jeff Petry was announced yesterday, the National Hockey League made a change on its official websites, a change that quickly sparked numerous reactions on the web.

Why?

Petry was identified as being the assistant captain of the Montreal Canadiens.

Many of you have written to us to ask the question, but the answer is no. At the moment, we have absolutely no reason to believe that Petry will wear an "A" for the Canadiens this season.

Max Truman has a good lead to explain what probably happened:

Jeff Petry and Casey DeSmith have been added to the Canadiens' official roster on the team's website...

And Petry has an A next to his name.

It's clearly just a technical/database transfer issue.

It's clearly an NHL mistake, but you can guess that it's causing quite a stir right now, even in Pittsburgh.
