The more days go by, the more intriguing new information surfaces.
We recently learned, for example, that Kent Hughes contacted teams to try to trade Petry even before the trade was officially announced last Sunday. It could, therefore, have become a four-team trade.
We also learned that the CH was not on Petry's no-trade list simply because he never believed there was a chance he would return to Montreal.
Here's another very interesting one.
While visiting Tony Marinaro's podcast, journalist Eric Engels revealed that Petry recently refused a transaction to his former GM.
Indeed, his former general manager, Kyle Dubas of the Pittsburgh Penguins, had traded him to the San Jose Sharks, but Petry refused to waive his no-trade clause to accept the transaction. San Jose was on his 15-team no-trade list.
Do you think Petry regrets this decision today?
Anyway, it was because of Petry's refusal that Dubas turned to the Montreal Canadiens. The rest is history.
It also allowed Kent Hughes to take advantage of an excellent business opportunity, successfully liquidating two undesirable contracts in Mike Hoffman and Rem Pitlick, in addition to welcoming a prospect and a second-round pick. Plus Jeff Petry at a reduced salary and goaltender Casey DeSmith.
A lot of twists and turns in this case! And all indications are that it's not even over yet. To be continued!
Do you believe Petry will be re-traded by Kent Hughes soon?
