When Kent Hughes announced last summer that he had agreed on the terms of a one-year contract with Sean Monahan, many Canadiens fans were pleased with how things were shaping up.

It must be said that the veteran made significant contributions to the CH in the 2022-2023 season before getting injured in early December. Had the former Flames forward remained healthy, he would have been an excellent trade asset for Kent Hughes at the trade deadline.

Now that Monahan is back with the team this year and seems to be healthy, the plan the Canadiens organization had last year concerning number 91 could very well materialize in 2023-2024. As reported by Marqueur.com, a famous host made a prediction regarding the CH forward.

During his appearance on the podcast La Poche Bleue, Jean-Charles Lajoie stated that if Sean Monahan remains healthy this season, the chances of him finishing the season in Montreal are very slim.

"Jeff Gorton's rosary is on the clothesline. So is Kent Hughes'. Both are praying that Monahan stays healthy. If he stays healthy, he will produce. And if he produces, we will succeed in doing what we couldn't do last year, that is, trade him. If he produces, by March, he's gone."

This is quite a bold statement from Lajoie, yet somewhat predictable. Considering that the Canadiens only gave him a one-year contract with a modest salary ($1.985 million) for a player of his caliber, it's highly likely that trading Monahan is Kent Hughes' Plan A.

Looking back, he could have secured at least a first-round pick in return for Monahan's services. Unfortunately, that plan fell through when Monahan suffered an injury in December 2022.

We can only hope he stays healthy at least until February and produces at the same rate as last year.
