We have already reached the stage of analyzing the best summer acquisitions by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens! Today we bring you news about the new player, Alex Newhook.

According to a ranking published yesterday, he is (not surprisingly) the best summer acquisition for the Canadiens.

However, a very interesting piece of information recently surfaced regarding the trade completed between the Canadiens and the Avalanche in June (for Newhook).

Another trade involving young Newhook could have taken place last summer, the same summer when Kent Hughes acquired Kirby Dach!

This comes from the source Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, who revealed in his podcast that Newhook was indeed at the center of serious negotiations for a trade between the Canadiens and the Avalanche during the 2022 draft.

It is believed that it may have involved a young defenseman and/or a 2022 1st-round pick, but it hasn't been confirmed.

It almost happened, but as we now know, it was finally settled, one year later.

Some also believe that he may have been part of discussions during the trade that sent Artturi Lehkonen to Colorado (which eventually brought Justin Barron and a pick).

One thing is certain, Kent Hughes' interest in Newhook is not recent, and he waited for the right moment to make the acquisition.

We are really looking forward to seeing him in action in a few weeks.
