We have just learned what Hughes was exactly asking for in exchange for Evgenii Dadonov on the trade market
In the last few seconds, a few minutes after the announcement of the trade between the Stars and Canadiens, insider Pierre LeBrun gave us some good information.
As you know, Kent Hughes finally obtained the promising and talented Denis Gurianov in exchange for Evgenii Dadonov.
However, LeBrun has just revealed what the GM of the Habs was asking for in exchange for his forward Dadonov from other teams on the trade market.
"Once the Jets made their trade on Saturday (for Niederreiter), it removed a potential destination for Dadonov, and the Canadiens were no longer certain of getting the 3rd round pick they thought they would get in exchange for Dadonov, so they pivoted to the Stars and took a risk on Gurianov. They want to see if they can revive him."

Really interesting. We learn here that Kent Hughes thought he would receive (and wanted) a third-round draft pick in exchange for Dadonov.
We also learn that yesterday's trade by the Winnipeg Jets had a direct impact on the trade concluded between the Habs and the Stars today.
Interesting.
