Personally, I would 100% reject this trade proposal, but Martin Lemay and Mathias Brunet would accept it, so here it is.
They have the 6th overall pick.
Brunet brought up the topic by mentioning that journalist Pierre LeBrun spoke with the Utah team's general manager, Bill Armstrong, who will have $40 million to spend this summer.
They have a much better budget compared to what they had in Arizona, and that could encourage them to make a big move in the trade market.
As for Martin Lemay, he would also make the trade, but for different reasons.
Personally, I really don't like the idea of trading a player who is already excellent, a player the Canadiens love, for a prospect who remains a "maybe."
Why not just keep Caufield and draft a Dickinson, a Lindstrom, or a Demidov with the 5th overall pick? We don't necessarily need to have two from this group.
If I had to trade Cole Caufield, it would be for a player who is already excellent and established, like Mitch Marner, and even then, I think it's a risk.
And you, do you like their idea? Would you trade Cole Caufield for the 6th overall pick in 2024?
See the full clip in question:
Caufield, 23 years old, 5 feet 8 inches and 175 pounds, is a 15th overall pick by the Canadiens in 2019. He scored 65 points in 82 games this season and 36 points in 46 games last season.
He has really progressed as a hockey player under Martin St-Louis' guidance in recent years.
