A trade offer has just came out between Montreal and Utah for Cole Caufield
On BPM Sports, a trade offer involving Cole Caufield was proposed between the Montreal Canadiens and the Utah team.
Personally, I would 100% reject this trade proposal, but Martin Lemay and Mathias Brunet would accept it, so here it is.
A trade involving Cole Caufield and the Utah team's first-round draft pick
They have the 6th overall pick.
«Proposal by Mathias Brunet. We're having fun, if you are the Canadiens and Utah offers the sixth overall pick for Cole Caufield?» - Via BPM Sports
Brunet brought up the topic by mentioning that journalist Pierre LeBrun spoke with the Utah team's general manager, Bill Armstrong, who will have $40 million to spend this summer.
They have a much better budget compared to what they had in Arizona, and that could encourage them to make a big move in the trade market.
«Let's say the Arizona Coyotes offer you their first-round pick in 2024, which is 6th overall after Montreal's, for Cole Caufield...?» - Mathias Brunet, who admits he would probably take Ivan Demidov before Cole Caufield As for Martin Lemay, he would also make the trade, but for different reasons.
«So, I could have say Cayden Lindstrom with the #5 pick and Sam Dickinson with the #6 pick or another good defenseman, so I will say yes.»
- Martin Lemay «Yes (I would do it too), and I like Caufield!» - Mathias Brunet
Personally, I really don't like the idea of trading a player who is already excellent, a player the Canadiens love, for a prospect who remains a "maybe."
Why not just keep Caufield and draft a Dickinson, a Lindstrom, or a Demidov with the 5th overall pick? We don't necessarily need to have two from this group.
If I had to trade Cole Caufield, it would be for a player who is already excellent and established, like Mitch Marner, and even then, I think it's a risk.
And you, do you like their idea? Would you trade Cole Caufield for the 6th overall pick in 2024?
See the full clip in question:
Caufield, 23 years old, 5 feet 8 inches and 175 pounds, is a 15th overall pick by the Canadiens in 2019. He scored 65 points in 82 games this season and 36 points in 46 games last season.
He has really progressed as a hockey player under Martin St-Louis' guidance in recent years.
