Big summer acquisition: Star forward Nikolaj Ehlers sends a message to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens
Present in front of reporters yesterday, Winnipeg Jets' star forward Nikolaj Ehlers made an interesting statement for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
Regarding Montreal's big summer acquisition, which is obviously Patrik Laine, Ehlers had a lot to say, and he made it clear to Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton that they made a great move.
Ehlers, who was under no obligation to do so, took a moment to say a few words about his former teammate Patrik Laine, who is now a Montreal Canadien.
Nikolaj Ehlers had a message for Kent Hughes: he acquired a good person with Patrik Laine
Here's an excerpt of his remarks.
«I'm proud of him. Everyone knows it's not easy to go through certain challenges, and what he went through could have affected anyone. I love this guy. I still talk to him. Seeing him play in Montreal now is going to be really cool for him. It's a city that loves hockey. He loves hockey. I think he's going to do well there.»
- Nikolaj Ehlers on his friend Patrik Laine
So, is Laine a good teammate? I think the signs are increasingly clear, and I believe we're starting to realize that Laine is definitely not the problem. Quite the opposite.
It's truly heartwarming to see that Ehlers took the time to say these words about his friend, Patrik Laine.
The great class of Nikolaj Ehlers!
It wasn't the primary purpose of the article, but you can imagine that a statement like this, about Laine and the Montreal market, could make some people dream.
Let's remember that Nikolaj Ehlers' contract ends next summer, as he is currently playing the final year of a deal paying him 6 million dollars per year.
The 28-year-old forward, who was the 9th overall pick in 2014, recorded 61 points in 82 games last season with Winnipeg. (457 points in 605 career NHL games)
If he's a free agent in July, should Kent Hughes inquire?
Nikolaj Ehlers is proud of what Patrik Laine has accomplished in the past year.
