The Habs' general manager has been very quiet since July 1, despite publicly stating that he is open to signing a veteran forward.
He attempted to sign Jonathan Marchessault, but to no avail, as Marchessault eventually agreed to terms with the Nashville Predators.
As reported by my colleague Cédrick Gervais, and via information from journalist Eric Engels (Sportsnet), forward Tyler Johnson has indeed been seriously linked to the Habs.
We are talking about an unrestricted free agent, free as a bird, who wouldn't cost much to acquire and is a Stanley Cup champion.
Tyler Johnson, 33, is a former forward for the Chicago Blackhawks and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
He tallied 31 points in 67 games in 2023-2024 and 32 points in 56 games in 2022-2023.
Johnson also recorded 72 points in 77 games in 2015 with Tampa Bay.
On a one-year contract worth less than a million dollars, would you like the Canadiens to sign Tyler Johnson?
It's a name to keep in mind.
In his career, he has amassed 431 points, including 193 goals, in 738 games in the NHL.
It's a big surprise to see his name linked to the Canadiens, considering his size, but the source is reliable, so stay tuned.
Let's note that he previously played with Martin St. Louis in Tampa Bay.
