The Habs could move up one position in the draft for free
After the 2024 National Hockey League draft lottery, we are expecting a significant response today.
The Montreal Canadiens, along with several other teams, could move up a draft position, depending on the decision made by the Ottawa Senators by tonight.
A first-round pick removed from the Ottawa Senators; all subsequent teams could move up a draft position
It should be recalled that following the infamously bad Evgeny Dadonov trade, concluded between the Sens and the Las Vegas Golden Knights in 2021, the National Hockey League imposed a severe punishment on Ottawa.
The Senators had not disclosed information regarding Dadonov's no-trade clause, which had aborted an already announced transaction.
A very embarrassing situation for the NHL.
"As a punishment, the Senators were thus required to lose one of their upcoming first-round draft picks, but could choose between those of 2024, 2025, or 2026."
Now that the Senators have the 7th overall pick in 2024, it's decision time for them.
Will they choose to lose a 7th overall pick? It would be a very tough decision, but it would ensure they do not lose a 1st or 2nd overall pick in the future.
To be continued!
For now, everything indicates they will keep their 2024 pick, but we still have no official confirmation.
