We have a trade to announce. And it's interesting because it involves the Edmonton Oilers!

The Oilers aren't getting rid of a player; quite the opposite, they are acquiring forward Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks!

The Oilers Acquire Forward Vasily Podkolzin

See the announcement from the renowned Chris Johnston:

«The Oilers have acquired Vasily Podkolzin from the Canucks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft.

Edmonton is taking action while decisions on the offer sheets signed by Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg are still pending.»

And the official announcement from the Oilers:

This is a trade that surely sets the stage for another, as the Oilers dig themselves deeper, already being above the NHL salary cap.

Let's remember that they now have less than 48 hours to find a way to match the offer sheets submitted to Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. (by the St. Louis Blues)

Absolutely everyone expected to see the Oilers trade a player, but no! They've ended up ADDING a player instead.

Does this mean they will let one go via offer sheet?

Will Podkolzin be the «Christian Dvorak» of the Edmonton Oilers? It's a story to follow.

Vasily Podkolzin, 23 years old, is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound winger. He was the 10th overall pick (1st round) by the Vancouver Canucks in 2019.

Last season, he recorded 28 points in 44 games in the American Hockey League, including 15 goals, and he has added 35 points and 18 goals in his NHL career so far.

He earns $1 million per year until 2026.

Details to follow.
