As we reported yesterday, there was a big surprise in the NHL waiver wire, as the Carolina Hurricanes placed goaltender Antti Raanta on waivers.
And there's an update this morning.
We've just learned that there's a real chance that Raanta could join the Montreal Canadiens organization, specifically with the Laval Rocket.
Why? Here's the reasoning:
"Situation to watch here. If Antti Raanta is not claimed, he could be assigned to an AHL team. Could the Rocket get involved in this case? I remind you that the Hurricanes do not have a firm farm team in the AHL this year."
- Via Anthony Marcotte
Interesting! If Raanta is not claimed on waivers, the Hurricanes will need to find him an AHL team because they don't have one.
And the AHL team that makes the most sense is probably the Laval Rocket, which unfortunately loses too many games due to its goaltenders.
Having Antti Raanta in goal for the Rocket would change everything! And rest assured, it would be a huge addition!
Raanta, 34 years old, has a .915 career save percentage in the NHL and 133 wins in 265 games. He earns $1.5 million this season.
This is a story to follow today and this afternoon!
