Major: Corey Perry about to sign a new deal? We have all the details
It will be really interesting to see what happens with forward Corey Perry, as several well-informed people have left the door open for a return to the NHL this season for him.
Obviously, because he was very popular in Montreal and because he has a great relationship with young players like Cole Caufield, it's a file we're closely watching.
It seems to be understood that the action he took is not serious enough to definitively end his career, but again, to be followed.
In short, see what an Edmonton journalist just published:
"We can assume that Ken Holland will inquire about the forward. If Holland took the risk of signing a contract with Evander Kane, who had a lot of problems off the ice, he would probably not be opposed to talking to Pat Morris, Perry's agent. The acquisition of Kane was a home run for Holland."
- Jim Matheson of Province Sports It would be quite a turnaround for Perry, who could be so useful to a club like the Oilers. It's not for nothing that they're interested, and Matheson doesn't say this lightly.
He continues:
"Holland will have to wait until Perry's situation is resolved, and he will certainly have to thoroughly investigate what Perry did to have his contract terminated in Chicago, but if he doesn't think that's a serious obstacle, Holland will go all in for Perry."
- Jim Matheson
All in, nothing less.
Remember that Perry has until March 8th, the trade deadline, to sign a new deal for the end of the season and to hope to participate in the playoffs.
Certainly, don't be surprised if a signing is forthcoming for Perry, in Edmonton, Montreal, or elsewhere.
