They have announced the firing of Luke Richardson.
The team released a statement:
As a reminder, before being named head coach in Chicago, Luke Richardson was an excellent assistant coach for the Montreal Canadiens and worked (brilliantly) with Martin St-Louis.
If he hadn't received the offer from the Blackhawks, he would undoubtedly still be with the Habs.
The question is certainly worth asking, especially as many experts continue to emphasize just how much Richardson's departure hurt as an assistant behind the Canadiens' bench.
Well, he's available again!
Richardson has always been highly regarded within the organization:
This is a possibility that will undoubtedly spark discussions within the Montreal media in the coming days.
Alex Burrows still hasn't been replaced behind the bench, and unlike Jim Montgomery, I'm not certain Richardson will quickly receive another head coaching offer in the NHL.
He has always loved Montreal, and Montreal has always loved him, especially because he truly did an excellent job. (Which explains why he received an NHL head coaching offer in the first place.)
Personally, do you believe Luke Richardson could be a strong «wingman» for Martin St-Louis behind the Canadiens' bench, knowing that he excels with young players and is probably one of the best assistants in the NHL (if he returns as an assistant)?
Do you think the Canadiens should bring back Luke Richardson as Martin St-Louis' assistant coach?
