Seeing the young man, who is only 24 years old, leading this game is not surprising. In just four seasons in the league, Makar has a Stanley Cup ring, a Calder Trophy, as well as the Conn-Smythe and the James-Norris. Add to that his 246 points, in 238 games, and we undoubtedly understand why he received this honor from EA Sports.
The fact that he has not yet reached his full potential makes many journalists and experts think he is in the same category as Bobby Orr.
The man himself completely disagrees with these statements and wanted to clarify.
Many will disagree with the fact that he has not achieved anything yet (see his achievements in the second paragraph) when he has done much more than the average player in the League. However, it is true that Makar still has a lot to do to catch up with the former number 4 from the Boston Bruins. The latter won five Norris trophies between the ages of 22 to 26 and had six consecutive seasons of 100 points or more.
It should be noted, though, that times have changed since the "Bobby Orr era". The parity in the NHL and the numerous young talents entering the league in recent years is vast. The fact that the defender is already at the top of them all is a fantastic feat in modern hockey!
While being on the cover of this game is a great honor, there is, however, a flip side to the coin. In recent years, those chosen have often faced setbacks following this nomination. In fact, only two of the last 27 cover players for this game advanced past the first round of the playoffs the following season.
It will be interesting to see if Cale Makar and the Colorado Avalanche will break this unfortunate trend!
