The rumor had been widely circulating this summer, and it was probably one of the worst-kept secrets in the NHL, but while he was interviewed last night on TVA Sports for the first time since his arrival with the Colorado Avalanche, Jonathan Drouin confirmed it all.

Nathan MacKinnon Played a Huge Role in Drouin's Arrival in Colorado

So, it wasn't just dubious links drawn by some journalists, it was true.

Drouin indeed signed with Colorado largely to join his good friend Nathan MacKinnon.

"Nathan was the biggest factor [in my decision], but the team as well. When you look at the Avalanche, they have several elite players and the way they play matches my speed.

But it's certain that Nathan played a big role, we talked often during the free agency period." - Jonathan Drouin, via TVA Sports

They talked during the free agency period, and we can also conclude that MacKinnon probably went to make his recommendations to the bosses there.

In any case, it worked very well.

As the Avalanche prepares to land at the Bell Centre next Monday, Drouin has accumulated 14 points in his last 14 games, and MacKinnon is having another extraordinary season.

During this very interesting interview with Jean-Charles Lajoie, Drouin also confirmed another interesting rumor.

He turned down more lucrative offers, and left money on the table, specifically choosing to join the Colorado Avalanche.

Drouin signed a one-year contract worth an annual value of 825,000 dollars. He bet on himself, and so far, it's working.

This says a lot about the seriousness of his approach! Bravo to him!
