Having had a superb season in Colorado, after amassing 50 points in his last 57 games of the season (a pace of 72 points per 82 games), he has just been injured.
At the worst possible time, and just as Drouin was probably about to experience the most important week of his NHL career, he has been injured.
This is sad news, but let's wait and see.
Here is what we know so far.
As the Avalanche prepare to face the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the playoffs, they have indeed possibly just lost Drouin's services.
The Quebec forward had to leave yesterday's game, being in pain and discomfort.
Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar had no updates to offer the media after the game, so things don't look very good but let's wait and see. Hopefully, it's not as bad as expected.
Let's really hope that Drouin will be able to play in the first playoff game, scheduled for Sunday in Winnipeg, and hope that he is at least 90% fit.
He has become an important player for the Avalanche, a first-line player and a top power play contributor. An injury would be really terrible for him.
More details to follow.
