The Avalanche make a big decision on Valeri Nichushkin's future
Following the announcement of Valeri Nichushkin's 6-month suspension without pay, the Colorado Avalanche have already made a decision regarding him.
A significant move, and one that speaks volumes.
While some of Nichushkin's teammates publicly criticized him yesterday in the Avalanche locker room, the Colorado organization has already decided to remove all traces of the number 13 forward.
The Colorado Avalanche seems to be turning their back on Valeri Nichushkin already
It started with his nameplate on his locker:
«Nichushkin's nameplate has already been replaced in the Avs' locker room.» - Corey Masisak, Colorado journalist
But it went even further afterwards.
Clearly, the Avalanche organization unfortunately seems to want to move on from Nichushkin, who will be away from the team for a minimum of 6 months (without pay).
Also his teammate called him out publicly for his behaviour:
It remains to be seen if the Avalanche will manage to break his hefty contract, a $49 million contract valid until 2030. According to Pierre LeBrun, this will be very difficult to do.
Nichushkin is an excellent hockey player, but many wonder if he will get another chance, this time in the National Hockey League.
Details will follow.
Following Nichushkin's departure, the Colorado Avalanche fell 5-1 last night against the Dallas Stars. It's hard to believe it wasn't a major distraction for them.
Nathan MacKinnon's and Cale Makar's team will face elimination Wednesday night in Dallas.
