Despite the Canadian's recent successes, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton's plan shouldn't change, at least until the end of the season, and some players won't be back with the team next year.
But precisely, with regard to next year, the insider Pierre LeBrun had mentioned, ten days ago, that the new staff of the Habs intended to sign a star free agent in the opening of the free agent market this summer.
And we must say that the 2022 crop of free agents is full of talent. We find among others the two former clients of Kent Hughes, Patrice Bergeron and Kristopher Letang, as well as Claude Giroux, Evgeni Malkin, Johnny Gaudreau and Filip Forsberg, to name a few.
But for La Presse journalist Mathias Brunet, Kent Hughes' priority in the free agent market should be San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl.
Brunet discussed this topic on 91.9 Sports and there is no doubt, according to him, that the Canadians must do everything to attract Hertl to Montreal.
Brunet mentions that he has the perfect profile to integrate well into the new philosophy of the Canadian and that at 28, he still has several good years to play.
Would you like Kent Hughes to offer him a contract this summer as a free agent?
