Alex Ovechkin became the 4th all-time leading scorer on Monday night when he scored his 741st career goal. A colossal mark in hockey played as hard as it is today. Not to mention the technique of the goalies and the "bigger" equipment than in the past.
In his team's 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres, the old "Ovi" played a total of 24:19 minutes, directed six shots on net, scored his 741st goal and had two assists to reach 600. The "Czar" is one of only nine active players to have reached that milestone.
With 600 assists, he became only the second player in Washington Capitals history to reach this milestone. The first to do so was Nicklas Backstrom, the Russian player's great comrade. "Backy" now has 722 assists.
Ovechkin, at 36 years old, is having the best start of his career. The man is a superhuman, who, like good wine, gets better at every level over time. Good job, Ovi!
