The surprise of the year for the Habs is without a doubt Arber Xhekaj. The young defenseman impresses with his strong play, but also with his ability to score.
In Saturday night's game, Xhekaj scored his fourth goal of the season already. Not only is he the leading scorer among CH defensemen, he is also the leading scorer among all rookie defensemen in the NHL.
Xhekaj was never drafted and he graduated from junior to the NHL directly, without going through the AHL. He brings a dimension that no other defenseman on the current edition of the Habs can bring and you can see it when he's left out.
On this beautiful Sunday morning in December, among the rookie defensemen of the NHL, ARBER XHEKAJ:
-4 goals (1st)
-7 points (5th)
-37 shots (3rd)
-68 hits (1st)
-21 blocked shots (7th)
-51 PIM (1st)
