Since beginning his retirement, Pierre Gervais has stayed busy. The publication of his book Au coeur du vestiaire has not gone under the radar in the hockey world. Gervais, who worked for the Canadiens for 35 years as an equipment manager, reveals several juicy tidbits about professional hockey.

One of the most eye-catching passages is the one that looks at the appointment of the 29th captain in Canadiens history, Max Pacioretty. Indeed, Gervais is highly critical of the leadership of the latter. Several personalities in the hockey world have spoken out about this much-discussed book. Among them, former Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien took a stand against his former colleague. In an interview with TVA Sports, Michel Therrien came to the defense of the former CH captain and gave unpublished information on the appointment of Pacioretty, as captain in 2015.

Not surprisingly, Therrien indicates that the leader of the team at that time was Carey Price. So Habs officials considered handing the captaincy to their goalie. They then based on the experience of the Vancouver Canucks when Roberto Luongo was captain, in order to make the decision not to hand the C to Price.

"The leader of that team- there was Carey Price but Luongo had been captain in Vancouver and it hadn't been a success, so we took that off our list." -Michel Therrien

By removing the option to name number 31 as captain, Pacioretty received the nomination by default. Although Subban's name was also in the running, the locker room did not seem to lean in his favor and Pacioretty became the only logical choice for the organization.
