Development: already a 6 million dollar contract for Rafaël Harvey-Pinard?
As you may know, an incredible number of key players have been injured for the Montreal Canadiens this season, which has created golden opportunities for some younger players.
One of these young players who has certainly seized his chance is Quebec native Rafaël Harvey-Pinard.
Since being called up by the Montreal Canadiens, he has performed very well, especially on the first line alongside Nick Suzuki.
Most experts already agree that he has earned his spot in the Habs' lineup for next season.
Harvey-Pinard will be a restricted free agent this summer
However, before anything else, "RHP" will need to sign a new contract with Kent Hughes, as his current deal indeed expires at the end of the 2022-23 season.
He earned $825,000 per year this season, but he will undoubtedly receive a salary increase this summer.
On this topic, several experts have already weighed in.
Eric Engels of Sportsnet suggests a 2-3 year contract at $1 million per year.
Meanwhile, Joël Bouchard believes a 4-year contract at $1.5 million per year would be more appropriate.
"I have no problem giving term to this guy. When you know the person behind him, he's passionate, he's proud, he has everything it takes to succeed in Quebec because he's humble, he's a good kid, he comes from a good family, he's hardworking, he takes it seriously, he has an extraordinary hockey sense, and that's why he's playing all positions with the Canadiens right now.
For me, he's a sure bet, and that's why I would have no problem giving him term.
I would sign him for 4 years at 1.5 million and I would never give up on this guy. He's a versatile player, he'll play everywhere. He's a hockey player! Name someone who doesn't think he's good today and who regrets that we drafted him in the 7th round."
Joël Bouchard
Harvey-Pinard, 24 years old, has accumulated 14 points in 27 games this season.
Do you agree with Bouchard? Would you offer him $6 million over 4 years?
