Huge announcement to come for Montreal? A journalist just dropped a major piece of information that would have an impact on the CH Group
For a while now, several Quebecers have been dreaming of a return of Major League Baseball to Montreal, a return of the Expos. However, according to what can be understood, it is rather the NBA basketball that has a chance of establishing itself in the city in the coming years.
A major piece of information has recently come to light. In a recent tweet, the excellent basketball analyst at RDS, Pete Yannopoulos, added to the subject. He even says that an NBA team in Montreal is almost a done deal. Wow!
"Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum personally told me that MONTREAL is a fantastic basketball city. He is in contact with the local consortium that wants to bring the NBA to the 514. It's not a matter of if, but when (it will happen)." - Pete Yannopoulos
"Prediction - There will be an NBA team in Montreal in the not-too-distant future. They have many interested and well-funded groups, including the Montreal Canadiens." - Gabriel Morency
So, it can be understood that the NBA is in constant communication with the group led by former minister and senator Michael Fortier. Fortier has been working hard behind the scenes for several years to make this project a reality.
To do so, Fortier will undoubtedly have to partner with Geoff Molson to be able to benefit from his building: the Bell Centre. The owner of the CH Group will certainly not refuse the possibility of adding at least 42 dates to his building's calendar.
This partnership could also go beyond the simple rental of the Bell Centre. The CH already has a marketing, ticketing, and operations infrastructure. Not to mention the immense expertise in the use of radio and television media. This means that the club could operate very quickly following a league announcement.
In an article by Réjean Tremblay dated October 2022, the journalist mentions the interest of the CH when he asked the President of Sports and Entertainment of the CH, France Margaret Bélanger.
"Anything related to professional sports interests us..." - France Margaret Bélanger
The partnership seems inevitable! This is big!
