The case of Jonathan Drouin drew a lot of attention today, as head coach Martin St-Louis unveiled his first "official" lineup.
To the surprise of many, the Quebec forward is not on a regular lineup and seems to be on the way to being left out for the first game of the new season.
He himself commented (and seemed to confirm):
Questioned in turn on the subject, Martin St-Louis had this to say:
"Jonathan Drouin is in my plans. He still has the potential, it's to help him reach it."
- Reported by Renaud Lavoie
St. Louis agreed to elaborate a bit more on his plans for Drouin, and on Drouin's future this season:
"He's in my plans. His potential is intact, that's for sure. Now it's about helping him reach that potential."
"In camp, he missed some time and he's behind the others in terms of conditioning. He's coming back from an injury, we have 15 forwards and that's something I have to manage."
"Every guy has value, and it's up to them to bring it up. When his value fits, Jonathan is going to be in a position to succeed."
- Interesting words from Martin St. Louis, reported by the excellent Richard Labbé
It's up to you to conclude what this means for Drouin in the short and medium term. For now, he will obviously have to start the 2022-2023 season in the stands.
