According to information from journalist Dan Kingerski, the Montreal Canadiens would really like to acquire Pittsburgh Penguins forward Kasperi Kapanen, the cousin of CH prospect Oliver.

Oliver Kapanen, 18, was indeed drafted 64th overall in 2021 by the Tricolore.

But back to Kasperi... Dan Kingerski mentioned this:

« The Penguins have received serious inquiries about Kasperi Kapanen from the Montreal Canadiens. »

Really interesting! He is a very fast player with a solid skating stroke and the ability to score big goals.

The former 22nd overall pick in 2014 (first round) has 26 points in 59 games this season. He also had 30 points in 40 games last season.

Kapanen, 25, will be an independent player with compensation at the end of this campaign. His salary impact is currently $3.2 million.

It's hard to say what he could cost the CH, via trade, but these are not just rumors. The Penguins are very open to trading him, according to several credible sources, and Kapanen was even recently passed over by the Penguins, to avoid injury and to send a message.

If you were in Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton's shoes, what would you offer to acquire Kapanen?

Please note that he was traded from the Leafs, to the Penguins, in August 2020 and cost Pittsburgh a prospect and a first round pick at the time (and Evan Rodrigues, but the Leafs released him immediately after the trade)
