Last minute announcement from the Habs regarding Jake Allen and Mike Matheson
In the past few minutes, the Montreal Canadiens organization made a nice announcement regarding goaltender Jake Allen and defenseman Mike Matheson.
They are both named co-recipients of the Molson Cup for February 2023.
Yes, Allen again!
There will be a special presentation to recognize the good work of both Matheson and Allen just before Tuesday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Here's the official statement from the organization:
"Allen was named first star once (February 28 in San Jose), second star once (February 12 against Edmonton), and third star once (February 24 in Philadelphia). In five games in February, the 32-year-old goaltender posted a 4-1-0 record and maintained a goals-against average of 2.00.
His .937 save percentage is the third-highest in the NHL among goaltenders who played at least five games during this period. Allen notably recorded his first shutout of the season on February 14 against Chicago.
For his part, Matheson was named first star once (February 11 against the Islanders), second star once (February 25 against Ottawa), and third star once (February 14 against Chicago). The 29-year-old defenseman led the team with eight points (three goals, five assists) in nine games in February.
Matheson notably scored the overtime winner on February 11 against the Islanders, and had a four-game point streak (February 18-25) during which he scored two goals and added three assists."
Montreal Canadiens
Congratulations to both players of the Habs.
Well, as you can see from the comments, it's not unanimous, but they played well!
Some fans would have preferred to see Rafael Harvey-Pinard (and/or Samuel Montembeault) be rewarded.
