Major development regarding Cole Caufield's next contract and it's going to cost a lot of money

Last night on TVA Sports, informer Renaud Lavoie revealed some important information about Cole Caufield's future with the Montreal Canadiens.

Very good news!

Renaud confirmed that negotiations between Kent Hughes and the Cole Caufield clan are going well.

However, it is clear who has the big end of the stick. Still according to Lavoie, the CH wants to settle this as quickly as possible (with reason), but on the side of Caufield's agent, Pat Brisson, he is not in a hurry and he could wait until the end of the season to settle everything.

Obviously, he knows that the value of the contract increases every day.

A parallel between Caufield and Zegras?

Trevor Zegras and Cole Caufield have the same agent, but in the case of the dynamic Ducks forward, talks have yet to begin. This gives the Habs a head start:

"Talks between Pat Brisson and Kent Hughes are ''underway.'' Are we going to let some time pass to see what happens with Zegras? Pat Brisson told me today [Thursday] that he was in constant communication with Pat Verbeek, but that negotiations had not begun. They will begin at the appropriate time," Lavoie mentioned on JiC.

Caufield scored two more goals yesterday to bring his total to 18 this season. It's really amazing.

"On the Canadiens side, the sooner you get that contract sorted out, the better, probably. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next and how Pat Brisson handles this. Pat is a very good agent, probably one of the best in the NHL. What's been going around the NHL is that both players are tied up in their contracts. I think the next few weeks are going to be very interesting." - Renaud Lavoie

So Zegras will also be one to watch for CH fans.

With Caufield's recent performance, do you think it's now impossible for Montreal fans to expect to sign him for less than $8 million per season? Do you think we are approaching $9 or $10 million per year?

One thing is for sure, it's going to cost a lot to sign him, and he absolutely deserves it. What a player Cole Caufield is! What a chance to have him with the Tricolore!
