To date, Logan Mailloux has still not received the NHL's GO to make his entry into the NHL.

While some think he will have trouble distinguishing himself in the CH's future defensive line, others believe he is one of the organization's top prospects.

The Athletic's expert Scott Wheeler is in the first camp. He has excluded Mailloux from his top 100 prospects already drafted across the National League.

This ranking also places David Reinbacher at the 20th rank, Lane Hutson at 27th, and gives an honorable mention to Owen Beck.

A Major Statement

On his side, CH's former professional scout, Grant McCagg, is certainly in the second camp. In a recent interview on the Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro, he unequivocally placed Mailloux at the top of the team's prospects.

I've watched at least 50 games of Mailloux. If Wheeler watched as much footage of each of the prospects he needs to rank, he wouldn't sleep.

In the playoffs against the Peterborough Petes, he was used more than 23 minutes per game, on average. Dale Hunter sent him on the ice for every penalty kill. I think he was the best defenseman of the OHL playoffs. [...] Right now, he's ahead of Reinbacher and Lane Hutson. He's the closest to the NHL. - Grant McCagg

McCagg even shared his top-5 prospects for the CH. A ranking that is quite surprising:

1- Logan Mailloux
2- David Reinbacher
3- Lane Hutson
4- Oliver Kapanen
5- Owen Beck

Yes indeed, he places him ahead of CH's 5th overall pick in 2023.

In his interview with Marinaro, McCagg reminds us that the London Knights' GM, Mark Hunter, recently praised his young defender, stating he was, in his opinion, the best blue line prospect to have come through the OHL system since John Carlson. When you know, as Marco Normandin from the site HF reminds us, that Adam Boqvist, Evan Bouchard, Ryan Merkley, Nikita Zadorov, and Olli Maatta all followed Carlson in London, it's a huge compliment!

It will be interesting to see Mailloux in action during the next CH training camp, to see what he can do with and against men!

Last season with the London Knights in the OHL, the 20-year-old defenseman accumulated 25 goals and 28 assists, for a total of 53 points, in 59 games. He added 24 in 21 games during his team's playoff run.
