Massive news announced: a very interesting publication involving the Montreal Canadiens, Mitch Marner, and Auston Matthews makes the General Manager look good
At the end of the day yesterday, as you know, a huge news dropped in the hockey world when star forward of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Auston Matthews, signed a massive contract extension.
We're talking about a four-season pact with an annual value of $13.25 million, which will make him the highest-paid player in the world.
Today, many are naturally drawing parallels with our team, the Montreal Canadiens.
Many have compared him with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, and let's just say we're far off the mark.
These contracts make the Canadiens (CH) look really good.
Matthews - $13.25M
Tavares - $11M
Marner - $10.9M
Suzuki - $7.875M
Caufield - $7.85M
Dach - $3.3M
We're not necessarily saying that the Canadiens' core is better than the Leafs', but it literally costs half as much and will allow Kent Hughes to support them much better.
Whereas in Toronto, they are apparently about to lose William Nylander because they won't have the money to pay him, Kent Hughes will be able to make major additions.
Things are getting tougher for them and are improving for us.
These contracts signed by Toronto put Kent Hughes and the long-term deals recently granted to the Habs' young stars in a very good light.
"Are Matthews and Marner superior to Caufield and Suzuki? Yes. The CH guys aren't 60-goal scorers or 100-point players right now.
It's a different situation, but that shouldn't prevent Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton from being proud to have their two long-term stars under the eight million dollar mark." - Charles-Alexis Brisebois
Well said!
